Girls in grades 5 and 6 are introduced to the game and rules of basketball. Students practice basic skills including ball handling, dribbling, passing, rebounding, and shooting. Through scrimmages, girls develop and display teamwork and an appreciation for the game. These players also have the opportunity to learn by observing the Varsity basketball teams play.
Girls in grades 7 and 8 continue to learn about the rules of basketball. Girls also practice defensive moves and offensive plays. These girls observe Varsity basketball teams while learning how to record statistics during these games. Most girls usually move onto competitive CPS inter-league play.
Morning Mustang’s mission is to improve our students’ health, their fitness level, and giving them the opportunity to play safely in our community. The health aspects are secondary, though; we just really want the children to have fun and enjoy coming to school to play every day. The activities we do every day are designed so that we exercise and play every morning for approximately for an hour. In Mustangs we play games that include running and physical activity so as to help our students get exercise and have fun at the same time. We hope our student’s see Morning Mustangs as another reason to look forward to come to school every day, helps them feel better about themselves, and allows them to improve themselves- both physically and emotionally.
This club deals with 7th - 8th grade boys and girls developing their soccer skills. This club is held in the mornings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The students are divided into 5 teams and play tournament style games. At the end of this club, the final 2 teams play in a championship game, deciding the winner.
